About Ponyo, well it's a kiddie movie, but I enjoyed it myself.
The underlying theme is very serious though, it's about "Deep Ecology", a kind of neo-nazi movement masquerading as environmentalism. These people advocate a massive culling of Humanity for the sake of Nature. Many good people (like Fujimoto in the film, or in real life like the French oceanographer Cousteau) are lured into such movements. That's how mad the world is.
You're lucky to live in Russia, because you (the Russians) are fairly immune to this Western nonsense.
For the famous scene where Ponyo is running on the waves during the tsunami, with wagnerian music in the background, I think Miyazaki was inspired by Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" (it's a documentary about astronomy, Nature and Humanity in general. It's old but it's still worth seeing.) The exact passage is here I guess.
The next two films of Ghibli (Miyazaki and Takahata) were announced yesterday. I hope it won't be too long before we can see them...

УдалитьWell, when I`m watching Ponyo, I`m immersing into the world of my childhood and simple happiness. So, it`s a perfect movie, if you want to think about nothing, really. I know, the every Miyazaki movie has an other side, but...sometimes I just stop thinking about it :)
